Our Year 2 students recently presented Chickalita!, an engaging musical that combined music, drama, movement, and storytelling.
Before the musical began, students delighted the audience with a special pre-show performance of Lemon Tree. Their confident singing and enthusiastic stage presence set the tone for a morning of celebration and performance.

Families and staff gathered to celebrate the students' learning as they performed the story of Chickalita, a young chicken who leaves her farm in pursuit of her dream of becoming a singer. Through a series of challenges and encounters, the story explored themes of perseverance, friendship, and staying true to yourself.

Developing Performance Skills
Throughout the production, students demonstrated the skills they have been developing during rehearsals and classroom learning. They performed with increasing independence, followed choreography, sang as part of an ensemble, delivered lines to an audience, and worked together to move the story forward.

Students from Kangaroos, Platypus, Quokkas, and Bettongs classes each contributed to the production through a range of musical numbers, including Spring Chicken, Heaven Help a Chicken Farm, What Came First?, This Chicky's Gonna Move!, Cross the Road, I'm Gonna Sing, and People With Dreams.

Learning Through Collaboration
Productions such as Chickalita! provide students with opportunities to develop communication, cooperation, and self-management skills in an authentic context. Success on stage relies on students supporting one another, remembering their responsibilities, responding to cues, and contributing to a shared outcome.

The performance also highlighted the importance of persistence and practice, with students working over many weeks to prepare for the production.
Celebrating a Shared Achievement
The musical concluded with all four Year 2 classes coming together for a whole-cast finale, celebrating the collective effort that made the performance possible.

We congratulate our Year 2 students on their commitment throughout the rehearsal process and their willingness to participate, take risks, and perform in front of an audience.

We also thank our teachers, music staff, and families for their ongoing support in helping students prepare for this special event.
