Our Year 1 students recently lit up the stage during this year’s End of Year Concert, Mega Mighty Minibeasts, presenting a vibrant celebration of music, storytelling, movement, singing, and performance. Through both musical performances and dramatic storytelling, students embraced opportunities to collaborate, communicate, and express themselves with enthusiasm and pride.

A Musical Opening
The concert began with a special instrumental showcase from each Year 1 class, highlighting the musical skills students have been developing throughout the term.
Each class confidently performed a classical piece alongside their lively class songs:
Pardalotes performed Harmonius Blacksmith by Handel followed by their class song, Pardalotes
Echidnas performed Minuet followed by followed by their class song, Echidna Shuffle

Lyrebirds performed Eine Kleine Nachtmusik followed by followed by their class song, Lyrebird
Kookaburras performed Ode to Joy followed by followed by their class song, Kookaburra
Cassowaries performed New World Symphony followed by followed by their class song, Cassowaries

All Year 1 students came together to perform the Syndicate performace, The Show, filling the theatre with excitement and energy.

Bringing Mega Mighty Minibeasts to Life
The audience was then transported into the colourful world of Mega Mighty Minibeasts, following Ramble the centipede librarian and her forest friends on an exciting adventure to discover what it truly means to be “mega” and “mighty”.

As the minibeasts journeyed through the forest in search of the professor behind The A–Z of Beasts, students brought each scene to life through expressive narration, character acting, singing, choreography, and creative movement.
Along the way, the story highlighted important themes of teamwork, resilience, environmental responsibility, and recognising the value that every living thing contributes to the world around us.
Memorable Musical Performances

The musical featured a range of lively and engaging songs performed by the students, including:
We Are Minibeasts: The catchy, celebratory title song that highlights how small creatures are strong, smart, and important.
Oh Pong Pong Pong: A quirky, fun song about minibeasts eating rotting vegetables and cabbage (often accompanied by burping or silly sound effects!).

If I Were A Minibeast: A playful, imaginative song exploring what it would be like to be a spider, a ladybird, or a cricket.
The Teamwork Song: A song specifically for the ants, highlighting how they march and work together to get the job done
Each performance showcased the students’ growing confidence, teamwork, creativity, and enthusiasm. From humorous character moments to energetic dance routines and joyful singing, students captivated the audience throughout the entire performance.

We are incredibly proud of all our Year 1 students for their courage, enthusiasm, and outstanding performances during Mega Mighty Minibeasts! 👏
