Join our AISB Soi 20 Summer School Program from June 17th to July 12th, 2024. This year, we are offering two unique programs: Holistic and Sports Adventure Program Thai Language Program Age Groups and Program Availability Nursery: Only the Holistic and Sports Adventure Program is available. Kindergarten, Foundation, and Year 1: You can choose between the Holistic and Sports Adventure Program and the Thai Language Program. Subject Matter:Past histories and heritage Project Name: Historical Egyptian Monuments In their Visual Art and Design class, Year 4 students embarked on a fascinating journey through Ancient Egypt by creating intricate trioramas depicting iconic locations such as the Nile River, Tutankhamun's tomb, the Valley of the Kings, and the Great Pyramids of Giza. With enthusiasm and attention to detail, they meticulously crafted miniature landscapes, incorporating historical accuracy and imaginative flair. Guided by their teacher, they explored various techniques such as paper cutting, painting, and clay modeling sculpting techniques to bring each scene to life, immersing themselves in the rich history and culture of Ancient Egypt.

Year 4 students are certainly immersing themselves in weaving, learning to craft bags using various techniques. They start with tying cross-hatch knots, then progress to wrapping yarn around branches and weaving on metal mesh boards. Through these steps, they eventually create striking bowls, showcasing their skills in Visual art.

On the 29th of April AISB will welcome 10 preservice teachers from the School of Education, Macquarie University, Sydney.  Macquarie is one of our two partner universities. In late March, with fellow Board member, Ms Gloy, we had the absolute pleasure of meeting the 10 members of the group and their accompanying academic leader, Dr Sarah Powell and a member of the university’s international administration team, Ms Sophie Widmer. The preservice teachers are 4th Year Bachelor of Education students; they are doing a double degree course. Their second degree is either a Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Psychology. They will graduate in December this year. We conducted a pre departure workshop with conversations about entering the teaching profession, about our school, and life in Thailand. It was inspirational for us to hear their answers to the question “Why do you want to be a teacher?” They spoke with passion about their desire to help the young children who will be in their care in future. In the responses of each of these aspiring young teachers, we could hear and see that each of them is driven by the qualities of compassion, empathy, care, and a deep desire to guide and support the learners they will be responsible for in the future. This impressive group is the first of what we are planning to be an annual Professional Experience visit from Macquarie School of Education preservice teachers. This group will provide a great start to the plan. They will be in primary school classes on both Soi 20 and Soi 31 from Monday 29th April to Friday 10th May. Parents as you drop in to the school, please make yourself know to them. They would love to meet as many members of our community as possible. In the November 2023 Cambridge A-Level examinations, a remarkable feat unfolded as eight students, six of whom are currently only in Year 8, undertook an exam intended for Year 11 and 12 students. Under the guidance of Ms. Mami Makino, all eight students achieved outstanding A grades, showcasing an extraordinary level of academic prowess and determination. This achievement holds special significance as it marks the third consecutive year that Ms. Mami and her students have accomplished the remarkable feat of securing all A grades. This consistent success underscores the exceptional teaching and mentorship provided by Ms. Mami and highlights the dedication and brilliance exhibited by the students under her tutelage. The collective effort of both teacher and students in achieving such consistent excellence is truly commendable and stands as a testament to the exceptional educational environment fostered within our institution. Congratulations to Ms. Mami Makino and her students on this phenomenal achievement!

Written by Shelby Aomjan, Kindergarten Teacher and Syndicate Coordinator In Term 1 our Kindergarten children participate in a Healthy Bodies inquiry. Throughout the inquiry children explore ways of keeping their bodies safe in the sun, hygiene routines such as brushing their teeth and washing hands, different parts of the body and foods we eat. The Quolls class are able to identify the different kinds of foods they like to eat, such as a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as treats which are to be enjoyed sometimes. As children had shown such interest in sharing which types of foods they like to eat, 'cooking' them in the play kitchen and serving them to their peers, they participated in a hands-on experience to further explore. The children were able to observe the skins, peels, stems and seeds of foods they eat often, identifying different parts of a plant, and those parts which they may not always see before they eat. Children were then encouraged to stamp and roll with the fruits and vegetables, noticing the patterns and shapes that they created. The Quolls participated with enthusiasm and shared their observations with staff, noting "This is sticky", "That one is a circle", and "Oh no a leaf fell off". The children’s creative painting has now been displayed in the classroom where they can continue to notice the different shapes, patterns and textures the foods created on the paper, revisiting their learning and sharing their creations with others.

The AISB Innovation Centre this Saturday, December 2 is the place to be with some of Bangkok’s best and brightest swimmers battling it out to be crowned 2023 Super Splash Champions! AngloSingapore31, Raffles, AngloSingapore 64, St. Andrews with hosts AISB will be racing in electrifying 25 Metre, 50 Metre and relay races set to ignite the crowd into a frenzy! AISB Swim Co- Captain, Kai mentioned “We can’t wait to host these schools and I am predicting a few records to tumble! Equally excited was Co-Captain, Kate who said “We have worked really hard for this and our aim is to do our best and have fun! We are hoping to see many school friends come out and support us”. AISB is well represented with 50 athletes from Under 9 to Over 15. Entry is free, food and drink available at the entrance. Gates open at 8AM with the final races at 12:30PM.

Written by Mr Andre, Head of Sport, PE & Aquatics AISB recently made history with its first-ever Athletics Day held at the Thai-Japan Youth Centre on November 10, 2023. This momentous event was a celebration of athleticism, camaraderie, and the vibrant spirit of our diverse student body. Under the bright sun and against the scenic backdrop of the Tahi-Japan Youth Centre, students from various year levels came together to participate in a thrilling array of track and field events. From sprints to long jumps to shot puts, and obstacle courses the athletic prowess displayed by our students was truly awe-inspiring. Each participant, whether our smallest of Year 1's to our biggest of Year 12's showcased determination, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to give their best. The vibrant energy was not limited to the track and field; supporters and parents cheered passionately from the sidelines, representing our houses, and fostering an atmosphere of unity and school pride. What made this Athletics Day truly exceptional was the unison of cultures and nationalities. AISB's diverse community was on full display, with students of different backgrounds coming together, competing, and supporting one another with enthusiasm and respect. AISB's inaugural Athletics Day at the Tahi-Japan Youth Centre was more than a sporting event; it was a testament to the school's commitment to holistic education, fostering not just academic excellence but also physical fitness, teamwork, and a spirit of inclusivity. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, teachers, staff, and parents for their unwavering support, making this event a resounding success. This week marked a special occasion at the Innovation Centre, as each year level visited on designated days for a morning filled with activities in Design Technology, Media Arts, Digital Technology, and Art and Design—all centered around the theme of light. In Visual Art and Design, students had fun using ultraviolet paint to create paintings that lit up under UV light. In Media Arts, students did shadow drawings, exploring light and shadow using various objects. They changed the angle and distance of the light source to see how shadows transformed. For Design Technologies, students got creative making shadow puppets. They looked at different puppet styles from around the world for inspiration. Some added cutouts inside their puppets, while others designed parts for movement. The fun part? Performing with their puppets. In Digital Technology, they mastered the control of Sphero robots, experimented with changing colors and honing their skills in sequencing instructions. Navigating the robot through simple mazes provided a hands-on and engaging experience in the world of digital innovation.

Written by Ms. Cari, Physical Education & Swimming Teacher Our Kindergarten and Foundation students enjoyed the fun and excitement of their Sports Day on the 13th & 14th of November. Students took part in activities at five different stations with the support of their class teachers and members of the PE and Sports team. Their efforts in the Fishing game, Tube Relay, Obstacle course, Caterpillar walk and Target throw were outstanding and the students enjoyed demonstrating all their learning and development from their PMP lessons. Our parents enthusiastically cheered on as the students took to the field to showcase their skills. It's was wonderful to witness the joy and excitement that the students experienced while participating in such activities, which will go a long way to foster a love for physical activity and sports in our young students.
