Our Soi 20 campus was transformed into a vibrant underwater wonderland for our much-anticipated Nursery Spring concert. The theme, "Under the Sea," brought a wave of excitement as s our young learners displayed their talents through songs, dances, and delightful musical performances. This event perfectly aligned with the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting various developmental outcomes for the children. The students, dressed as fish, turtles, jellyfish, and even sharks, brought the ocean to life on stage. Their bright costumes, complete with glittering scales and flowing tails, were a sight to behold. Our young learners twirled and swayed, embodying the playful spirit of the ocean. Their enthusiasm was infectious, drawing smiles and applause from proud parents and teachers alike. The stage decorations added to the immersive experience, featuring sea animals, coral reefs, seaweed, and bubbles, all meticulously crafted by our talented staff. These elements created an enchanting backdrop that perfectly complemented the children's performances. The concert concluded with heartwarming group songs, "Slippery Fish," "Sea Animal Dance," and "Mysteries Under the Sea," where all the students came together, singing their hearts out and waving goodbye to the audience. It was a fitting end to a magical day, leaving everyone with cherished memories. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the parents, teachers, and TAs who helped make this event a success. Your support and effort have made our "Under the Sea" concert an unforgettable experience for our little stars. We look forward to more such joyous celebrations in the future!

Kudos to Our AISB Badminton Team who secured 1 Gold Cup, 3 Silver, and 4 Bronze Medals in the Tournament held by the American School of Bangkok at Kin Stadium. Chess without Borders was held twice before being interrupted by Covid and each time featured over 100 student chess players from schools in Thailand and overseas. It is now back and is a great avenue for students to gain competition experience, gain recognition for their achievements, hone their skills and knowledge in chess and mix with many other chess minded students. On Saturday, March 9th, 2024, AISB hosted our 4th Chess Without Borders Tournament. Seventy-three competitors ranging in age from 5 years up to about 16 years tested their chess skills against enthusiasts from other schools. Of the 73 competitors, 22 were from AISB, and quite a few AISB students finished on the podium, receiving medals or trophies. In fact, two of our students, Ayaan and Ko, won their respective divisions. AISB also added to our chess trophy collection by winning not one but two trophies for the school: Most Competitors and Most Points Scored (based on our top three performers). All the children were clearly enjoying themselves, even though it was a long 8-hour day on a Saturday. Many people from both campuses contributed their time to this event—Mr. Brenton, Miss Arvie (the AISB Chess coordinator), the admin teams of Soi 20 and Soi 31, and numerous others. I am sure the parents and children of AISB were very appreciative of the efforts of all those involved. I am sure many of the participants are looking forward to Chess without Borders 5. Learning to swim with confidence at an early age helps to instill meaningful and continuing values in children such as determination, courage and motivation.This important lifelong skill helps each child to increase their self-confidence, knowledge around daily safety practices and physical dexterity. It's also a great way for the children to cool down in the hot Thailand weather, whilst having the maximum amount of fun, in a safe and caring environment. They are able to increase their lung capacity by learning how to hold their breath under water and have the opportunity to dive and swim like sharks and mermaids to retrieve objects, whilst strengthening their flexibility, coordination and muscle strength. These are meaningful skills and personal traits that are useful both in and out of the water and our Kindergarten group are prime, shining examples of the many benefits that swimming at an early age offers.

For the past month, the Y3 Pademelons have been having a weekly creation contest, where the winner gets to be the Challenge Master and choose the next week's challenge. Each week, the students have the option to create something for the challenge. On Friday the students vote for their top three choices as well as trying to guess who created each item. The Year 9 and 10 Art and Design students recently travelled to the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre to see the main exhibition, ‘The 9th White Elephant Art Award Exhibition – The Land of the Smiles’. The purpose of this visit was for students to broaden their understanding on how artists can interpret the same theme but in different ways. They saw how various techniques, mediums and processes are used to make the artworks on display, took photographs to document their inspirations and also drew from observation. It was a great opportunity for our art students to gain inspiration and insight when completing their own IGCSE projects. Here is a reflection report written by Naraya, a Y-9 student. My experience at BACC helped me to understand and learn the different ways that an idea can be adapted into a piece of art. After the visit, I felt inspired to develop my art skills so that one day I can hopefully create art like the ones in this gallery. I chose this piece of art as my favourite because it was very unique and fit with my theme of 'Natural Forms'. It looked like the artist painted a landscape with different types of strokes that made the painting feel almost ethereal which is why I felt it suited the theme 'Natural Forms' well. The students were asked to make observational drawings of the artworks and work into them with other drawing materials over the weekend.

Our Year 7 students have been learning about expository, or informational, texts. After exploring the features of an expository text about the dangers sea turtles face during nesting season, students were asked to create an informational sign. The final posters were extremely creative and showcased a firm understanding of the topic!

Meet Aiyara, a student from Year 7 Coorongs, who just crafted the coolest turtle sculpture and its anatomy. 🐢 The Project: Exploring with Colors and Textures Our school's art project this time was all about exploring colors and textures. Aiyara took up the challenge and made something incredible. Her turtle sculpture isn't just pretty; it's made using different art tricks. Playing with Mixed Materials: Aiyara's Turtle Adventure Aiyara didn't just stop at using one or two things. She used mixed materials to make her turtle look fantastic! This project incorporates various forms, including crochet, assembling and modeling sculpting techniques, and utilizes a wide range of mixed media, such as mud rock plaster cast, papier-mâché, soft wire mesh, premium wire, modeling clay, and numerous recyclable materials. This made her sculpture not only look great but also showed off how awesome she is at art. Next Stop: Bio Art Attack Competition Guess what? Aiyara is aiming high! She's not just happy with finishing her project; she wants to enter it into a big competition called Bio Art Attack in the U.K. This contest loves art inspired by biology and Aiyara's turtle is just perfect for it. Hard Work Pays Off: Aiyara's Art Journey Aiyara didn't make this awesome turtle in a day. She worked really, really hard. She tried new things, faced problems, and kept going until she made something amazing. This turtle isn't just a sculpture; it's a story of how much you can do when you really love what you're doing. Aiyara has shown unwavering diligence in pursuing her clear goals and has worked tirelessly to create this outstanding piece that showcases creativity and craftsmanship. Let's all cheer for Aiyara and her fantastic art adventure! 🎨🐢

On February 20th, 2024, AISB had the opportunity to visit the KBTG bank’s innovation centre in Bangkok with 28 students from years 9 through 12. The centre is located in the outskirts of the city and is a hub for financial innovation and technology. We were given a tour of the centre, and we had the opportunity to attend four talks on Artificial Intelligence (AI), software engineering, innovation, and cyber security. Our group was met by Ms Angkana Sornsawad Vice President and Mr Phongyuttakarn Tanjaichon Assistant Vice President. To have two such important members of the bank greet our group so warmly is testament to the important view the bank took of our visit. Each of the four presentations were thoroughly professionally prepared and very interesting. Each presenter held the interest of the audience. Not always easy to do with teenagers. The interesting approach of a small gift to those students asking or answering questions was a novel approach and very successful. The AI talk was about the latest advances in artificial intelligence here in Thailand and how it is being used in the banking industry. They demonstrated facial recognition, talked about developing support for natural language processing, specifically for the regional languages, and addressed the issue of bias in the data. KBTG has strong links with the MIT labs and so are clearly in the forefront of this technology. The software engineering talk focused on the importance of software quality and how to build high-quality software. The presenter talked about the different employment routes that are open to a software engineer.  The presenter also discussed the various University Degrees/pathways a student could take to enable a position in the financial industry. The innovation talk was about the future of banking and how technology is changing the way we bank. They talked about both their successes and failures of new apps with a strong emphasis that all innovation needs not just a good idea but field research behind it to determine what might be successful. They also emphasised that it is important to start the roll out small and then adapt to the users way of working, and collect yet more data. The security talk was about the importance of cybersecurity and how to protect banks from cyberattacks. They talked about the different types of hackers and how important the protection of our data is. They talked briefly about the importance for multi-factor authentication and the problems of social engineering in cyber security. The figure of 100,000 cyber attacks a day was mentioned, all defeated. However the security expert stated 2 or 3 were really serious attempts. He clearly stated the need to be vigilant and up to date in their cyber security in order to protect the customers. The Bank is clearly focused on the future and in particular is future in the SEAsian region. After the talks, we were given a tour of the innovation centre. The centre is divided into several sections, each named after a famous scientist. These pods would provide a positive environment  and conducive atmosphere for collegial work with innovative and creative ideas. Overall, the KBTG bank’s innovation centre was extremely impressive and it was wonderful to see a state-of-the-art facility that is dedicated to innovation and technology, here in the heart of Thailand. The visit was really important on many levels. Firstly, to help us appreciate that our world is growing ever more dependent on technology; secondly,  we were able to develop an appreciation of how the latest advances in technology are being used to change the world and finally, of the challenges faced by the financial sector and the many career opportunities available to our young people today. Computers are not taking jobs, they are creating the need for a new, well educated workforce to fill the new jobs on the horizon.
