Kindergarten Our Curriculum Kindergarten classes cater for children aged 3 to 4 years of age. Kindergarten is the transition year between early education and the primary program. Our Kindergarten program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and provides a rich and engaging child-centred environment where children’s learning is embedded in play experiences. Learning activities are planned through inquiry units and a skills-based Pre-Literacy Program for children to build skills, knowledge and understanding in the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, mathematical, language and communication domains. Kindergarten: About Us Learning Focus In Kindergarten, children continue to build a strong sense of identity and connectedness to their world. Learn More About Us: Text School Services Our school provides a wide range of services for all students throughout the school year. MEALS Nutritious snacks and lunches are available for students every day. While we do strive to cater for some unique requirements, students with special dietary needs, other than vegetarian diets, are required to supply their own lunch. All meal times are considered learning opportunities; teachers and support staff supervise all meals. The School has a nut free policy on both campuses. TRANSPORT The school operates a daily bus service for children living in the vicinity. We also operate a shuttle transport service between the campuses in Soi 20 & Soi 31. Further information on routes and costs can be obtained from the office. SUN SMART SCHOOL AISB subscribes to a sun smart policy to protect children from harmful sun radiation. All children are required to wear a sun hat during outdoor play. Broad-rimed sun hats can be purchased from the office. SUMMER SCHOOL & EXCURSIONS In 2015 AISB introduced a school camping program for the Year 5 group. It has expanded each year and we now offer camps to Year 3, 4, 5, 6 and Secondary School students as well as excursions to Bangkok and surrounding areas. The camping program gives students opportunities to develop independence and team-work while working on topics related to their current curriculum in a real world context. We also conduct a Summer School program in June and July every year. HOUSE SYSTEM A house system provides opportunities for students to meet in cross grade groups to foster school tradition and school spirit and a sense of teamwork through various whole school activities such as sports events, celebrations, community service and other activities. Both children thoroughly enjoyed their time at AISB and took advantage of after-school activities, additional learning services and other many other activities. Both of the girls integrated very smoothly back into the Australian school system upon our recent return and were fully up to speed with local levels and requirements. It was an easy transition into nursery as all the staff (from teachers to nannies) were extremely caring of Aleix feelings. Inquiry-Based Learning Inquiry based learning draws on the principles of Teaching for Understanding developed at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and on inquiry based learning concepts that are very similar to those used in the International Baccalaureate.From Early Years all Humanities and Social Science lessons and Science lessons have been planned using an Inquiry pedagogy. The approach, where appropriate is used across other Key Learning areas as well. Academic Focus The curriculum has a strong academic focus based on literacy, numeracy, the creative and performing arts of music, visual art, drama critical and collaborative thinking through inquiry and physical development. Nursery children participate in week supervised water play activities. Students from Kindergarten 1 and above participate in weekly, all round swimming lesson. For the students who want to get the best out of their lessons, it is recommended that they swim a second session per week which the school provides in the After School Activities program. THAI LANGUAGE AND CULTURE Students learn basic Thai language through songs, rhymes and picture cues. There are also specialist classes for native Thai languages speakers.
