Susan Hasenkam - Head of Early Childhood

My name is Susan Hasenkam. I am the Head of Early Childhood Education and the Soi 20 Campus of the Australian International School, Bangkok.

I have been teaching for 37 years, with that experience encompassing my belief that, as an educator, every day offers opportunities for change, challenge, and reward – none of those years repeats any other! My teaching has ranged across Government, Catholic and Independent schools, including an IBPYP school, in Tasmania, Australia. I have been a specialist English/Science teacher for Years 7 to 10 students; an Outdoor Education teacher, running a remote live-in centre for primary students, and a classroom teacher for Years 1 to 6 students. I have been Principal of a primary school and Deputy Principal of a Foundation to Year 10 College.

Most recently I held the position of Deputy Head of the Junior School at a day and boarding school catering for 1050 boys. In this role, as well as supporting the Head of School in the administration of the Early Learning Centre and Junior School, my main focus was working with and supporting teachers in the development of their practice to deliver the outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum through rich and rewarding learning experiences.

For many years, I have been closely involved with the Council of International Schools and have served as a team member, and a peer evaluator on school accreditation visits in Australia, Bali and Hong Kong.

In my role as Head of Early Childhood Education and the Soi 20 Campus, I work closely with the Director and the Heads of Primary, and Middle and High School to ensure the vision of the school to ‘nurture the young leaders of the future’, is the driving force behind teaching and learning programs, staffing decisions, and the strategic plans which map our future.

I am committed to nurturing and maintaining a qualified and highly motivated staff which brings together rich and diverse experiences to engage our students in stimulating, well planned and differentiated learning opportunities, including opportunities for our young people to develop and practise the personal qualities that will equip them for life in an ever-changing world.

I acknowledge the importance of the relationship between home and school. Close communication with parents and carers, the first educators of our students, is key to underpinning and carrying forward successfully the work we do.

I look forward to being part of your child’s learning journey at Soi 20, and to meeting you as we work together to achieve the best for every student.

Kind regards,
